Key Benefits

  • Prevent frost and ice forming on paths, roads and patios
  • Reduce build-up of snow
  • Thaw existing ice on paths or driveways
  • Contains grit for better traction
  • Long lasting ice clearance
  • Professional grade salt
  • Available in bulk bags or small 15kg bags

How to Use

  • Use a spade or shovel to spread a thin level of rock salt onto your path or drive
  • If low temperatures are forecasted consider gritting the night before and then laying another layer of grit in the morning. Rock salt applied ahead of the snow and ice will help prevent precipitation from forming solid ice.
  • Sometimes you may not have been able to spread the grit before the snow, sleet or freezing rain has fallen; in these cases try to spread the rock salt as soon as possible after precipitation. Use a snow shovel to remove the snow and slush as soon as you are done spreading the rock salt. If solid ice has already formed, wait 20minutes after spreading the rock salt before you try and remove the ice. The salt will soften the ice and make it easier to break up and remove.
  • Re-spreading a light layer of salt again after snow or sleet has been cleared will help to prevent more ice from forming.
  • If gritting a sloped driveway, put more salt on the upper half of the driveway. When the precipitation runs down the drive it will help to keep the whole driveway clear.

Product Guidance

  • Placing salt on top of snow that has already fallen has limited benefits. Ideally snow should be cleared before the rock salt is applied to the road or pedestrian area.
  • Keep rock salt covered to ensure it is protected from the elements, well preserved and in the best condition for gritting. If storing in a salt bin, keep the lid closed to prevent salt quality from deteriorating. Although rock salt does not go off, it will become less effective if exposed to the elements.
  • The rock salt will last for a long time if kept dry. If exposed to water some of the salt may dissolve and can be washed away making the product less effective
  • Binding together may occur if the salt becomes wet, if this occurs, break up the salt before use
  • Remember that when the cold weather hits, the demand for rock salt always increases and deliveries can become more difficult. We suggest keeping a supply of rock salt well before you need it to avoid experiences rock salt shortages
